January 3, 2026:  Howe Sound. The first wee buds of Salmonberry appear by the sea. Rubus Spectabilis. Salmonberries flower in early spring (March–April), and their fruit ripens as early as May. This is significantly earlier than other native berries such as huckleberries, blueberries, or salal, which typically ripen later in summer.
